AG202 Ecological Pest Management 4 credits
Ecological pest management is a course designed around ecological strategies farmers use to manage pests, weeds, and diseases. EPM not only results in few pesticide applications but it also creates a healthier and more sustainable farm overall. This course will cover some of the most effective approaches including promoting biodiversity on the farm, rotating crops, conserving habitat for beneficial insects, and using practices that improve soil health. Learn about problem pests through identification and monitoring. The course will also compare a variety of management strategies such as integrated pest management practices as part of the holistic approach to pest management. The course will also explore the least toxic pest control strategies, labeling, formulations, and safe handling techniques.
