Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Associate of Science

The Outdoor Adventure Leadership degree supports all four core themes. As you earn your Outdoor Adventure Leadership degree, you will learn wilderness skills and gain confidence in leadership situations. We stress low-impact techniques for responsible environmental stewardship. This two-year outdoor education school teaches: wilderness studies, business and management principles, group development, leadership theory, communication & conflict resolution, safe & efficient travel, and Leave No Trace.

Outdoor Adventure Leadership prepares you to enter the job market and to transfer to a four-year institution like Southern Oregon University. Job opportunities include: adventure travel planners, nature and outdoor center guides, wilderness instructors, forestry technicians, outdoor recreation retail business owners or managers, and resort recreation or camp leaders.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 92 credit hours with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better. All courses must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better. Twenty-four (24) credits must be completed at Southwestern before the AS degree is awarded.

Courses that are developmental in nature (designed to prepare students for college transfer courses) are not applicable to this degree.

Students must complete the graduation application process one term prior to the term of completion (e.g., spring term graduates must apply during winter term).
